Applications open for winter fuel grant
Applications for the grant must be in before 31 March 2022
Racing Welfare is offering Winter Fuel Grants to those who currently work (and/or who have lost their job/work due to Coronavirus) in the thoroughbred racing and breeding industries.
This grant is specifically aimed at meeting increased winter fuel costs for those living on or below the Minimum Income Standard. If you are unsure if you might qualify, Racing Welfare will offer help with this and also help to claim any other statutory entitlements.
The Winter Fuel Grant is:
- In response to the increase in fuel prices
- To meet the basic needs of winter fuel prices

Eligibility criteria:
- If you are currently employed in or retired from the racing and thoroughbred breeding industry
- All grant applications are subject to a needs-based assessment and all statutory entitlements should have been applied for in the first instance.
- Not eligible to apply for a local authority Winter Fuel Grant (offered to anyone born on or before 26 September 1955 & resident in the UK in the qualifying week) OR Warmer Homes Discount (for those receiving Guaranteed credit part of Pension Credit)
- Have an increase and can evidence a rise in your home fuel costs.
- Household income should be on or below the Minimum Income Standards.
Further Information:
- All grants awarded will be a one-off payment of £300 covering a 3-month period of winter fuel.
- Decisions will be processed as soon as possible.
- Applicants must be residing in the UK
- The fund will remain open until 31st March 2022.
