Newmarket residents associated with the Racing industry who are yet to receive their Covid-19 vaccination are being encouraged to take advantage of two clinics being held in the town next week.

Racing industry workers and their families are invited to attend the events, organised by the NHS West Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group with the support of Suffolk County Council’s Public Health team, on Monday 21 June at Godolphin’s Warren Place Stables on Warren Hill or Thursday 24 June at The Racing Centre on Fred Archer Way to receive a shot of the Pfizer vaccine, which is suitable for all age groups.

Those who have already received a first dose of the Pfizer vaccine will be able to receive their second at the clinics if eight weeks have passed since the first was administered. Only the Pfizer vaccine is being used due to age demographics. Those who have already had a first Astra Zenica vaccination, should get their second through another vaccination centre.

Those aged 21 and over who are looking to get their vaccine at either clinic can book their slot via the National Booking System but walk-ins are also open to all in line with the following schedule:

  • 8.00am – 10.30am: Booked appointments
  • 10.45am – 1.00pm: Walk-ins
  • 1.30pm – 3.30pm: Walk-ins
  • 3.45pm – 5.45pm: Booked appointments
  • 6.00pm – 7.30pm; Walk-ins

Each clinic will have the capacity to welcome more than 500 visitors across the day.

Some staff in Newmarket who were in Dubai in the winter had the Chinese vaccine Sinopharm. They should not be re-vaccinated at this time.

Dr Jerry Hill, the BHA’s Chief Medical Adviser, said: “The importance of getting as many people as possible vaccinated cannot be overstated and so it is important that racing, like every part of society, does its part to ensure we are as close to 100% vaccination as possible nationally.

“Racing’s workforce has reacted superbly to the challenges faced in the last 12 months since we resumed behind closed doors and I have seen first hand people’s commitment to keeping their friends and colleagues safe and healthy. I therefore urge those working in Newmarket who have yet to get their jabs to take advantage of these clinics and get vaccinated.”

John Gilbert, CEO of The Racing Centre, said: “The Racing Centre has been proud to have played its part as a clinic in the vaccine rollout to date and I hope that those in our community who are yet to get their injection joins us, or heads to Godolphin’s Warren Place Stables, to get vaccinated next week so that we can get back to normality as soon as possible.”
