Level 3 Award in Equine Emergency Aid – Scotland
Tuesday 22 October – Wednesday 23 October – Ian Stark Equestrian Centre, Scotland
Designed for racing staff who wish to improve their knowledge and understanding of dealing with emergency situations and want to boost their confidence and practical experience to deliver emergency equine first aid. It will enable current staff to gain recognition and bring commonality to skills and the application of equine first aid across the industry.
The qualification has been designed to address the most commonly faced first aid scenarios, including:
- Managing horses in emergency situations
- Communication with the vet
- The primary and secondary survey and how to carry these out
- First aid kit
- Respiratory emergencies
- Fractures and eye emergencies
- Shock, collapse and cardiac arrest
- Wounds and how to care for them
- Colic, choke and tying up
- Lameness and laminitis
- Poisoning
- An overview of anatomy and physiology
- Administering treatments under BHA Rules
- The correct application of a wound bandage and stable bandage
- Poulticing
- Survey checks, including temperature, pulse and respiration
Course Prerequisite:
Prior to attendance on the Level 3 Award in Equine Emergency First Aid Course, attendees are required to complete the following free eLearning courses on www.racing2learn.com

- Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology
- Webinar Recordings: Lameness 1, Recognising Lameness and Equine Vision
The Equine Emergency First Aid Qualification is partially funded, leaving a £50.00 per person non-refundable contribution to pay. Refreshments are provided.
The course will run over two afternoons 22nd & 23rd October 12-4pm.
